2025/2026 Coach's Letter

Welcome to the 2025/2026 U16 Osgoode Richmond Romans season.  My name is Jon Rathwell, and I will be the head coach this season.  It is a privilege to be coaching the U16 Romans.  I look forward to the opportunity to build and improve upon the success that this group had last season and to try and help push this group to the next level.
 

I believe that creating a positive and supportive environment where all players can have fun and feel valued is essential for success.  I will strive to create a fun environment for all, while maintaining a strong focus on the competitive aspect of the game.
 

Players will be expected to compete to the best of their ability each and every time they are on the ice, both in games and in practices. Practices will be fast paced and high energy.  Players will be challenged and pushed in practice.  We will incorporate individual skill development into every practice however we will also focus on tactical team skills and team systems at this age.   Knowledge of the game and learning to play as a team are essential as the players move onto the older ages and higher levels of hockey.  
 

Attitude and character will be a central focus of our team. One of the most valuable lessons that can be learned from sport is the importance of teamwork, character, and attitude in determining success.   These values will be at the forefront of everything we do, and players will be held accountable for actions that are not reflective of these core values. 

 

We will participate in 4 tournaments this season:

• Capital Blues Hockey Fest, Richcraft Sensplex, September 26-28
• Coco Lemay Tournament, Clarence-Rockland, October 10-12
• Oshawa Challenge, Oshawa, On, November 14-16
• Gene Harrington Winter Ice Experience, Buffalo NY, Jan 23-25 

 

I encourage all players who are interested in playing competitive hockey this season, and who are willing to  push themselves to improve, to come and try out for the team.
